The Galloway School Protects Children

Past administrators and past boards at The Galloway School have taken a cavalier attitude toward the physical safety of the school's children and staff. In fact, The Galloway School expelled the TGS Watch children because their parents demanded the school take student safety more seriously. One of many concerns we brought to the school was the use of background checks on employees. In a June 15, 2011 email to the author of TGS Watch, former principal Bonnie Cerace claimed that The Galloway School indeed performed background checks on employees, a claim we later determined was false1.  Background checks began in 2012, one of the positive outcomes of the sexual harassment lawsuit against The Galloway School.

In response to a volatile situation2 at The Galloway School, the new administration and new board have begun to implement even more effective security measures.  The Galloway School now has an armed security officer3.  TGS Watch believes this individual is licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE).  Many area schools including Clear Creek ISD and Friendswood ISD have armed guards on campus.  The U.S. Department of Education reports the results of a survey of school security chiefs.  Fourteen of the 15 school security chiefs reported the use of armed security on campus.  Only one reported using unarmed security with "additional support, as needed, from their City Police Department."

Americans today have no problem using armed security at banks to protect something as inconsequential as their money.  TGS Watch is pleased that The Galloway School will protect something far more valuable -- its students -- with armed security, too.

1 Former TGS principal Bonnie Cerace has an adversarial relationship with the truth.

2 The link at this text describes the volatile situation at The Galloway School. According to the Friendswood Journal, threats have been made to persons associated with The Galloway School after former Head of School Bonnie Cerace was terminated.

3 The Galloway School has hired armed security in the past. This was shortly after Bonnie Cerace feverishly imagined a "terroristic threat" that she reported to the Friendswood Police Department. Initially, Ms. Cerace denied making that telephone call to the Friendswood Police Department. She later changed her story when confronted with records from the Friendswood Police Department.

"She later changed her story when confronted with records from the Friendswood Police Department."

Oh my goodness! Imagine that! You mean to tell me that Mrs. Cerace LIED about reporting a terroristic threat? Why would she do such a thing? What an idiot!! She not only lied about having reported the "threat," but she lied about the so-called threat!! There WAS no threat!! Another one of her little vindictive games. Did she actually think no one would bother getting a copy of the police report?? Yes, she's actually that stupid, and the ease with which she lies shows that she didn't even think about someone checking on the documentation!! Catching Cerace in a lie is SO freaking easy! How can you tell when she's lying? Her ugly old mouth is moving! All the things she has lied about, all her ethics problems, the crappy way she treated people, and her childish little temper tantrum in front of the board all confirm the fact that she is totally unhinged mentally. Bye bye and good riddance, Bonnie Cerace. Get yourself to a therapist, for God's sake!

I'm happy to know the school has at last taken student safety seriously. Nothing wrong with having some security present in light of Cerace's nasty little outburst and consequent firing. I am still overcome with happiness that they kicked her to the curb! FIRED!! I love it!! Every time I think about it, I cant help but smile from ear to ear! What a positively marvelous outcome for TGS. Now, if the school and the Friendswood Police Department would PLEASE follow up on the threats made against the board member. They really need to figure out who is responsible for those terroristic phone calls. I just can't imagine who would be crazy enough to do something like that, can you?

Ok, so the maintenance guy wasn't HIRED to be security, but in light of the fact that Bonnie was terminated after a violent outburst and a board member was threatened, it sounds to me like the school has a maintenance guy with a free security officer.

Someone keeps saying the maintenance guy shouldn't carry his gun. Let's run with that. The commenter does not disagree that security is needed. He/she just doesn't want the handy man to carry his weapon. Great. Check out the prices of off-duty officers working security.

There's a guy in that building with the same training as the off-duty officer you'd like to see if necessary. With the maintenance guy/officer, you have no need to wait for 911. He's ready to defend.

Someone tried to compare the maintenance guy to that crazy astronaut. If we use that logic, we should never leave our homes. Anyone could flip out at any time.

We don't have an unstable astronaut. We do have a fired ex-principal with a deadly weapons charge and a violent outburst on school grounds in front of a judge!

Who are you afraid of again?

A little confused here. A custodian was hired by the board and was found carrying a gun. So when did he get certified as a security guard? Why didn't they just hire him for that position in the first place? Key here is the date he was certified. Just saying.........

OMG! Are you actually attempting to say something positive about TGS?????

So when did he get certified as a security guard?

Anon (October 18, 2013 at 8:13 PM):

I don't think that matters. Our reading of Section 46.03 of the Texas Penal Code says that The Galloway School can authorize anyone to carry a firearm on property as long as the individual is in compliance with all other state laws.

Are you accusing someone of a crime? Perhaps you don't want The Galloway School to protect its children?

Are you kidding? TGS Watch has said plenty of positive things about The Galloway School. Earlier this week, we said we fully supported the Board in its efforts at conducting a financial audit. We gave "kudos to the Board" for making The Galloway School a safer place by firing former principal Bonnie Cerace. Even in January, we wrote that the school was in good hands and probably even better off because Ms. Cerace wasn't on campus. We praised the hiring of Debbie Stroud, anticipating that she would be a person of great personal integrity.

We don't think you're new to reading TGS Watch. We just think you intentionally misrepresent what we write.

And many more positive things are bound to be forthcoming now that Bonnie Cerace is history. The negativity and problems the school has experienced over the past few years can all be traced back to one person; Bonnie Cerace.

Sounds like the school decided they needed extra security after they fired Bonnie Cerace. What does that tell you. How awful that the school thought there was a possibility that a former principal would be a threat to others. Guess what? Bonnie Cerace was always a threat to the children and staff and her past proves it.

Please provide documentation of your "expulsion"! Thanks ;)

Anyone know anything about the Ryder moving truck today at the school?

Who knows? Cerace probably has more crap she needs to pick up from the school. She had crap every where!
